EU Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič met with NEC representatives at a round table with stakeholders in Sofia

On 15.03 Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič met with stakeholders during his visit to Sofia. The National Energy Chamber was represented by the co-chairman Mr. Robert Dick, country manager of EVN, who introduced the mission and objectives of the Chamber.

Mr. Dick said the Chamber supports the goals of the Energy Union but they have to be implemented by individual countries taking into consideration the local conditions. The key challenges Bulgaria faces are related to the security of the investments. There are interested companies ready to invest in Bulgaria for reaching the Clean Energy Package targets toward 2030 and these investors require sustainable and predictable conditions. With regards to consumers, Mr Dick commented that energy prices, which for Bulgaria are the lowest in the EU, should not be used as a social policy tool but an adequate mechanism of supporting energy poor consumers should be designed by the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy.
