AES Bulgaria contributes to the stabilization of the energy sector and enhances the energy independence of the country through its diversified power generation facilities. With an estimated investment of nearly EUR 1,3 billion, the 600 MW net TPP AES Galabovo represents the newest and most modern power plant in South East Europe. Part of it is the Waste Disposal Facility designed to accommodate the waste product of the power plant, using the most advanced and environmental friendly storage and preservation technology. Owned by AES Geo Energy, a joint venture company of AES and the German Geo Power with minority stake, Saint Nikola Wind Farm with a capacity of 156 MW and 52 Vestas wind turbines is the largest wind park in Bulgaria.

In September 2013 AES established Europe Shared Services Center in Sofia which delivers specialized financial, IT and Supply chain services to all AES businesses operating in the region of Europe and Middle East.
In October 2016 the portfolio of the company in Bulgaria was enriched also with the HR Shared Services Center, supporting Europe and Asia SBU.
